🗣️ Scammers are Using AI Voice-Cloning Tools

Scammers are now using the latest AI updates on text-to-speech technology to clone voices and trick unsuspecting victims into sending them money.

According to the Washington Post, scammers are taking advantage of new generative AI tools that can create convincing speech with just a snippet of someone's voice.

The scam is becoming increasingly popular in the US, with over 36,000 reports of people being swindled by those pretending to be friends and family in 2022.

"If you've recorded a TikTok and your voice is in there for 30 seconds, people can clone your voice," warns a digital forensics professor.

One tool is keeping their most sophisticated tools behind a paywall to keep scammers from using their tech. While this is a step in the right direction, more fraud detection schemes need to be put in place.
