Musk, Woz, Call for AI Pause

Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and more are calling for a six-month halt on advanced AI systems development, citing "profound risks to society." 

The warning comes after OpenAI unveiled GPT-4, fueling the AI race to create more advanced systems. The letter said the competition is already "getting out of control." 

"Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves: Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth?" the letter read.

Signed by over 1,000 people, the petition calls on AI labs to work with policymakers and independent experts to establish shared safety protocols and governance systems for AI design and development. 

They suggest that governments should impose a moratorium on AI development if the temporary pause cannot be quickly implemented.
